An aerial crane and assembly flight involves the transportation of a load, placing it on a designated spot, delivering the load to an assembly team, assembly or disassembly at the site, or a combination of these tasks using equipment for external load suspension on the aircraft.
Flight Classification:
By Task Nature:
- Category I – Crane Operations: Transporting a load from one point to another without precise placement on a specific site.
- Category II – Assembly Operations: Transporting a load from one point to another with precise placement on a specific site.
- Category III – Prolonged Assembly Operations: Transporting an element from one point to another with precise placement on a specific site, involving prolonged hovering (over 5 minutes). This category also includes tasks with a technician sitting on a special platform outside the helicopter, performing specific assembly and repair tasks.
By Altitude Above Ground Level (AGL):
- Category N – Low Altitude: Transporting up to 50 m AGL.
- Category S – Medium Altitude: Transporting between 51 and 100 m AGL.
- Category W – High Altitude: Transporting above 100 m AGL.
By Suspended Load Weight:
- Category L – Light Load: Weight of the suspended element up to 75% of the helicopter’s lift capacity.
- Category C – Heavy Load: Weight of the suspended element above 75% of the helicopter’s lift capacity, without exceeding operational limitations.
